Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second successive year.
The 27-year-old captured four tournament victories – the most on tour – which included successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Year of High Performance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the whole season as the world number one, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka concluded the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and picked up a historic eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.
She garnered nearly eighty percent of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Additional WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking a 13-month break after the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
