The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It features our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at several agonizing backstories for key figures including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the song choice.

The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition created by artist the talented musician. This piece from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.

Personally, The series' intro fails to capture the excitement and excitement that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when cast member the performer wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. This track that excites you before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its mood is a little off.

Of course, Critical Role has stated that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as among these.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
