US President Trump has declared he is raising import taxes on products imported from Canadian sources after the province of the Ontario government broadcast an anti-import tax commercial featuring former President Ronald Reagan.

In a online message on Saturday, Trump labeled the commercial a "misrepresentation" and criticized Canada's leaders for not pulling it prior to the World Series.

"Due to their major falsification of the facts, and unfriendly action, I am raising the duty on Canada by 10% over and above what they are paying now," he wrote.

After Donald Trump on Thursday pulled out of trade negotiations with Canada, the Doug Ford said he would take down the advertisement.

Ontario's Reaction

Ontario Leader Doug Ford said on Friday that he would suspend his territory's anti-import tax ad campaign in the America, telling journalists that he chose after consultations with PM Carney "in order that trade talks can continue".

He also said it would continue to air on Saturday and Sunday, including contests for the MLB finals, which includes the Blue Jays versus the Dodgers.

Commercial Context

Canada is the exclusive Group of Seven state that has not reached a arrangement with the America since Donald Trump commenced seeking to charge significant tariffs on goods from major trading partners.

The United States has earlier applied a 35% duty on all Canada's products - though the majority are excluded under an present free trade agreement. It has also applied targeted taxes on Canada's products, such as a 50% levy on metals and 25% on cars.

In his post, sent while he was traveling to Asia, Donald Trump appeared to state he was adding 10 percent to these duties.

Seventy-five percent of Canada's exported goods are sold to the United States, and Ontario is the location of the largest share of Canadian vehicle industry.

Ronald Reagan Ad Particulars

The advert, which was paid for by the Ontario government, quotes ex-President Reagan, a GOP member and symbol of American conservatism, stating tariffs "damage American citizens".

The advertisement uses clips from a 1987 radio speech that focused on global commerce.

The Reagan Foundation, which is tasked with maintaining the ex-president's heritage, had criticised the advertisement for using "carefully chosen" audio and video and stated it distorted Reagan's address. It also said the Ontario authorities had not requested consent to use it.

Current Disputes

In his message on his platform on the weekend, the President claimed that the advert should have been removed before.

"Their Ad was to be taken down IMMEDIATELY, but they allowed it to air yesterday during the MLB finals, knowing that it was a DECEPTION," he wrote, while en route to Malaysia.

Doug Ford had before pledged to broadcast the Reagan commercial in each GOP-controlled region in the US.

Both the President and Mark Carney will be going to the Association of Southeast Asian Nation in Malaysia, but Trump told reporters accompanying him on Air Force One that he does not have any "intention" of conferring with his Canada's leader during the visit.

In his update, the President additionally accused Canada of trying to manipulate an upcoming American high court case which could end his entire tax system.

The lawsuit, to be considered by the Supreme Court in the coming weeks, will rule on whether the import taxes are constitutional.

On last Thursday, Trump further criticized, saying that the advertisement was designed to "meddle" with "a crucial lawsuit"

Baseball Championship Connection

The advertisement is not the only way that the region – base of the Toronto Blue Jays – is using the MLB finals as a platform to criticise Donald Trump's import taxes.

In a clip published on last Friday, the Premier and Gavin Newsom the Governor humorously agreed on stakes about which side would triumph the series.

Each official consistently bantered about duties in the clip, with Doug Ford promising to send the Governor a can of syrup if the Dodgers triumph.

"The import tax might set me back a higher price at the border currently, but it'll be justified," he stated.

In answer, Governor Newsom asked Doug Ford to resume permitting American drinks to be marketed in province liquor stores, and pledged to deliver "the state's premium vino" if the Toronto team succeed.

They ended their conversation each stating: "To a excellent World Series, and a tax-free friendship between the region and CA."
