Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Leading Abusive Chants About Coach Wilder
The striker is now a member of Sheffield United just half a year after leading derogatory taunts directed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has signed a agreement joining the second-tier strugglers until January. Bamford's lengthy time with Leeds finished amicably in August.
One of Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds involved leading abusive songs about Wilder amid the club’s promotion celebrations this spring. Currently, the former England player is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to pull his beloved club out of the relegation zone.
Past History Between Bamford and Wilder
Both men had previous conflict before Leeds moved up to the top flight the previous campaign and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured direct promotion whereas Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation & Moving Forward
Everything seems has been put behind them with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement in attack while Bamford aiming to revive his career.
The song about Wilder spread widely in April. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I’ve no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and respected him calling me.
“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we used to dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”
Latest Playing Struggles
The forward made 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro striker has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
