A systems problem at Edinburgh's air traffic control meant no planes could enter or leave the airport.

Passenger services have restarted at Edinburgh Airport following a significant technical issue at the control tower brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped due to an technical fault that arose around 08:30.

Several flyers reported being stuck in jets at the stand while the issue persisted.

Services Recommence with Residual Impact

Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, significant disruption are anticipated to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with a host of additional flights experiencing delays.

An airport representative had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," the statement added.

Source of the Issue

The airport attributed the operational halt to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers are still being urged to check the status of their journey before traveling to the terminal as residual delays are managed.
