Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several notable changes:

  • Each team includes just 8 real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for players looking for different methods to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and someone else lists everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
