A Ton of Anime Updates Landed During the Festive Season
The Yuletide season present a multitude of activities far superior than scanning the updates: discovering surprises, feasting on festive fare, and harnessing patience techniques to not yelling at family members. It is wished you succeeded in do all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting developments emerged over the holidays, and should you overlooked some of them, here is a summary of the biggest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Without a doubt the most surprising revelation, the widely-criticized disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt further production. The show will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they might as well have called it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will remain at the helm. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which could be taken as a positive development. But, the promotional image for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, at this point, they must be teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now fans are overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works
Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been airing for years, and its sixth season was another excellent entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio famous for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Right after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has yet to be revealed.
